Demolition of the bridge on Spring Street near Daly Elementary School began on Monday. Crews will replace the bridge, culvert, sidewalk, and fencing.
The city council in early June approved a lone bid from T&B Trucking and Excavating, LLC, in the amount of $418,593. The bridge replacement will be paid for using the city’s ARPA funds. Mayor Jeremy Dawson on Monday said the bridge should be finished sometime in September.
The bridge has been closed to traffic since April 2022, when city crews noticed erosion had compromised the bridge.
The closure creates traffic problems for events such as softball games and summer recreation activities. It is normally closed during school drop-off and pickup times in order to allow young students to safely walk to and from school.
