Slow day at the polls

Voting was underway for municipal and school board elections as this newspaper went to press Tuesday morning. Only 12 ballots had been cast at the Howard County Courthouse by 8:15 a.m. A low turnout was expected with only two contested elections county-wide. Those were for New Franklin and Higbee school boards. Prior to Tuesday, only 47 absentee ballots had been cast.

No municipal elections were contested and several school boards declined to hold elections since there were as many candidates as open seats. Six of seven polling places were open until 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Results were posted on the Fayette Advertiser website and Facebook page.
