New Bicentennial Time Capsule Dedicated

Posted

The Fayette Bicentennial Committee formally dedicated the new time capsules shortly after the CMU Homecoming parade on Saturday morning. In addition, around two dozen time capsule ambassadors were introduced.

These sons and daughters of Fayette are charged with returning to the square in 50 years to open the time capsules, and possibly dedicate a new one.

The committee had to secure a second time capsule due to the overwhelming number of entries. They will be buried at a later date.

The committee has mounted a year-long celebration for Fayette’s 200th birthday. A particular highlight was the unearthing the old time capsule. It was buried beneath the northwest courthouse lawn in 1973. The contents were distributed during the annual Fayette Festival of the Arts on Aug. 5.
