The City of Fayette is currently hiring lifeguards for the City Pool. So far only four of around 16 position have been filled.

Lifeguards require certification from the American Red Cross, which will be provided when employment begins. Applications are available at City Hall or on www.cityoffayettemo.com. Resumes may also be faxed to (660) 248-3502.

The pool typically opens on Memorial Day weekend, and closes in early August when fall semester activities such as band and athletics resume.

The city is currently interviewing candidates for pool manager for the summer season.

Applications are also being accepted this month for free family pool passes. Recipients must meet the income eligibility requirements and be within the Fayette School District to be eligible for a free pass. If there are more applications than pool passes, recipients will be selected by a random drawing. Questions should be directed to City Hall at (660) 248-5246.

The WPA-era above-ground swimming pool opened on July 4, 1936, and was dedicated as Howard County’s Word War I Memorial. The Art Deco design was patented by nationally-renowned civic engineer Wesley Bintz. It is only one of two “Bintz” pools left in Missouri. Fewer than a dozen remain nationwide.
