The Friends of Historic Fayette Memorial Pool are seeking paid memberships to help fund restoration and updates.
The WPA-era above-ground swimming pool opened on July 4, 1936, and was dedicated as Howard County’s Word War I Memorial. The Art Deco design was patented by nationally-renowned civic engineer Wesley Bintz. It is only one of two “Bintz” pools left in Missouri. Fewer than a dozen remain nationwide.
The organization was recently turned down for a 50/50 matching Land and Water grant in the amount of $64,000 through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Any donation to Friends of Historic Fayette Memorial Pool, a 501(c)3 organization, is tax deductible.
The Friends are seeking donations from $1 to $100,000. Those who donate $100 or more will receive two tickets to the upcoming Holiday Homes Tour. Donations of $5,000 or more will be commemorated by a plaque placed on the pool.
In addition to funds, the Friends are also seeking more volunteers to help fundraise and promote the mission of preserving the 87-year-old pool.
Donations may be mailed to PO Box 4, Fayette, MO 65248; or sent through the Venmo app @FriendsFayettePool. Further information may be found at the organization’s website, friendsfayettepool.com, or Facebook page.
