Fayette Rotary Club to host Cornhole Tourney for World Polio Day

Posted

World Polio Day is October 24, the birthday of Jonas Salk, the American researcher who developed the first polio vaccine in 1955. During October, Rotary Clubs worldwide are planning fundraisers to help support Rotary International and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Clubs from Fayette, Rocheport, and Columbia are joining forces by sponsoring a Cornhole Tournament on October 15 as part of the World Polio events.

The two-person double elimination tournament begins at 2 p.m. at Meriwether’s Café and Grill at the trailhead in Rocheport. The cost per team is $25.

The tournament is open to the public. A $50 prize will be given to the winning team. In addition, the winning 18-and-under team will receive a trophy. The winning Rotary team will receive a “bragging rights” trophy. Refreshments will be available at Meriwether’s.

Teams may register between 1 and 2 p.m. on October 15 at Meriwether’s. All proceeds will be given to the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign.
