Dimond named Assistant to the Mayor

Posted

The City of Fayette has hired former Main Street Executive Director Michael Dimond to serve as Assistant to the Mayor. Dimond was hired for the position, which is similar to a city administrator, during a special closed-session meeting held on August 24 that was attended by Mayor Jeremy Dawson and all six city council members.

Dimond began working in the new position at City Hall on September 5.

Fayette has been without a city administrator since June 2021, when then-administrator Tyler Griffith resigned just 11 months into a two-year contract.

While Dimond asserts the role of Assistant to the Mayor is not the same as a city administrator, he is serving as the city’s chief administrative officer.

Dimond is a well-known Fayette native. He served on the city council for three terms from 2005 to 2011 and was the Executive Director for Fayette Main Street, Inc., from 2020 through the end of 2022. After that, he helped launch Bee’s Knees Taproom at the Nest on South Main Street.

“I’m excited to be able to use my experience in leadership and management to work aside our council and mayor to move the city forward,” Dimond said.
