County will release CARES Act funds for local businesses

Posted

The Howard County Commission on Monday announced that $1,000 has been made available for each business in the county. The money comes from the more than $1 million the county received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Businesses that held Howard County business licenses as of March 15, 2020, are eligible to apply. Businesses must provide copies of the license. The funds are meant to provide some relief for businesses that continued to face rent and utility expenses during periods of reduced income caused by the pandemic.

Businesses must submit proof that payments for rent and utilities were made during April and May. Businesses that received any other federal grant money meant to help cover those expenses are not eligible.

All signed applications, contracts, and proof of payments must be submitted to the County Clerk’s office no later than September 30, 2020. Contact the County Clerk’s office at (660) 248-2284 for application and contract.
