Alderwoman Ford announces run for Mayor of Fayette

Posted

East ward alderwoman Stephanie Ford announced her candidacy for Mayor of Fayette at the city council’s regular meeting Jan. 7. She has served on the city council since 2015 and was uncontested in her bid for re-election in 2019.

“I want to make a difference,” she told this newspaper. “I want to see the community come together. The fire department, the city, CMU, the schools. We’re all a team.”

Current Mayor Greg Stidham announced he will not seek re-election. The city has two alderman seats on the council that are open for the April 7 municipal election. Should Ford be elected Mayor, her seat would need to be filled by the council’s appointment for the remainder of the term. East ward alderman Anthony Shiflett and northwest ward alderman Marc Wells have both announced they will not run for re-election, both citing insufficient time to devote to the council.
