Two Fayette teachers were honored at a ceremony Wednesday night hosted by the Fayette Board of Education. The Lincoln Public School Memorial Committee named Billie Williams as the 2023 Teacher of the Year. Tiffany Swanson was nominated to be the DESE Regional Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Williams has been teaching at Fayette High School since 2005, and holds a master’s degree in education. She began her career here as a paraprofessional in the special education department for 15 years. She currently serves as the school librarian, activities director, and sponsors the high school student council.
During her time in Fayette, Ms. Williams has been a cheer and dance coach, and coached middle school basketball.
“Billie Williams has been known to work with students and teachers behind the scenes to help seniors get work completed and turned in in order to graduate, said Fayette Superintendent Brent Doolin. “She’s done it time and time again. High school diploma is very important, and she stretches out her hand to make sure everyone has at least that.”
Ms. Swanson was nominated by district administration to be named Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Teacher of the Year. The awards are announced in the summer. She teaches high school science.
“Ms. Swanson is dedicated to improving the lives of her students on a daily basis,” Doolin said. “She goes above and beyond creating lessons and activities that will maximize students’ abilities. She has dedicated her life to education and creates lasting positive relationships with her students.”
