Richard Wayne McGary, Jr, age 59, of Wilton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2021, at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Boonesboro Christian Church in Franklin, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the Boonesboro Christian Church Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Richard was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 8, 1961, the son of Richard and Louise (Carter) McGary, Sr. He graduated from Lathrop High School with the Class of 1979. Richard married Tami McQuillen on October 24, 1987, in Iowa City.
Richard was a Heavy Machine Operator for Maxwell Construction in Iowa City for 20 years. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed hunting and competing in rodeo events. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and giving ATV rides to his grandchildren. Most of all, Richard cherished spending time with his family and was known for his loving hugs.
Richard will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Paige (Damon) Oien of Moscow and Whitney (Ryan) Hetzler of Wilton; honorary daughter, Nicole (Paul) Murray of Stanwood, Iowa; four grandchildren, Layla, Maddux, Harper, and Berkley; his father, Wayne (Allie) McGary of Hamilton, Missouri; his mother, Louise McGary of Camdenton, Missouri; one brother, Raymond (Cyndi) McGary of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; one sister, Brooke McDonald of Lawrence, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents.
