There have been several thefts and even destruction of political yard signs around Howard County in recent weeks. Howard County Democrat Committee Chairman Mary Jarboe reports that dozens of signs for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden have been stolen. A large Biden sign in front of Snoddy’s Store in Franklin was even spray painted and later set afire.
Fayette Police Chief Jeff Oswald confirmed that some small Biden signs were found in a creek behind the Central Methodist football field. He said the FPD is trying to locate stolen signs.
Mr. Oswald added that several Trump signs have been reported stolen as well. He encourages owners to initial signs that are put on display so that if stolen, they can be identified.
Chief Oswald, currently a candidate for Howard County Sheriff, said he too has been a victim of sign theft. One of his large signs was stolen in Glasgow.
It is illegal to steal, willfully deface, mutilate, or destroy any campaign yard sign on private property.
