A second person will run for Mayor of Fayette. Kevin Oeth filed paperwork on Tuesday.
A native of Marshall, Mo., Oeth lived throughout Mid-Missouri before finally settling down in Fayette four years ago to be closer to grandchildren. “Fayette feels like home,” he said.
Now retired, he spent nearly 25 years working for the city of Columbia, first with the police department, then for 12 years as the probation and collections officer for the municipal court.
Mr. Oeth and his wife, Barbie, moved to Fayette in 2016. “After 35 years of marriage we finally felt we were really home,” he said in a press release.
The press release further reads that he intends to run a very positive campaign. “As Mayor, I want the citizens of Fayette to know I will be here for them. I want you to know and understand I will listen, striving constantly to lend my ear to the people and their concerns, while also looking to the future of Fayette.
“As Mayor and as a former employee of a municipality, I know and will understand the needs and issues of Fayette’s city employees.”
Although he is retired, he still works a couple of jobs here in Fayette. He works one night a week as a member of CMU’s security personnel. He also works part-time in the Howard County Clerk’s office. However, he will quit that job as the April 7 election draws nearer to avoid any ethics violations.
Mr. Oeth’s son, Andy, is a paraprofessional at the Fayette school district and serves as assistant high school baseball coach. Andy’s wife, Kim, is a program director in Central Methodist University’s nursing department. The couple has two children.
The race for Mayor is now a field of two. Fayette Alderwoman Stephanie Ford announced her intent to run for Mayor at the city council’s Jan. 7 meeting. The Fayette Advertiser will publish profiles of both candidates and their views leading up the election.
