Glasgow resident, James Schwartze, 71, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia on November 25, 2020. 

James Allen Schwartze was born March 3, 1949, in Glasgow, Mo., a son to the late Alexander and Cora Myrtle “Myrt” (Woods) Schwartze. James graduated from Glasgow High School in 1967. In April of 1969, James enlisted with the United States Army, where he proudly served in the Vietnam War. James was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was Honorably Discharged on March 31, 1975. James worked as a welder most of his life. He started out welding in body shops, worked for General Motors for 19 years, and was a welder at Standard Havens for 13 years. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Roxann Kirby of Malta Bend, Mo.; two grandchildren, Becky and John Kirby, of Waverly, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle McKenzie and Adalynn Richards. He is also survived by a brother, Bill (Carol) Schwartze of Pittsfield, Ill., and a sister, Mary Jo (Ovid) Lyon of Armstrong, Mo. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant grandson and his significant other, Jackie Moore.

A funeral service with full military honors will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo., with Rev. John Gross officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m., Monday, November 31, 2020, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow.
