Filing for candidates seeking municipal and school board positions opens Dec. 15. The filing deadline is the end of business on January 19, 2021. Elections will be held April 6.

Voters in Fayette will vote for a new City Marshall and four members of the city council. Seats currently held by East Ward Alderwoman Stephanie Ford and Southwest Ward Alderman Grafton Cook will be up for re-election. The term will be for two years.

There will also be a special election for East and Northwest Ward council seats. The winners of those seats will serve out the remainder of the original terms for one year. Jeremy Dawson resigned as East Ward Alderman following the council’s Nov. 3 election as he moved out of that ward. He is now in the Northwest Ward and has stated his intention to run for that seat. Current Northwest Ward alderman, Pat Roll, who was appointed to the council in August, said he does not intend to enter the race.

For the Fayette R-III Board of Aldermen, seats held by current members Matt Hudson and John Stroupe will be up for election. Both men are serving their first terms on the board.

School board candidates must register at the district’s office.
