Fayette girls drop opener

Posted

The sixth-seeded Fayette girls couldn’t shake of the rust fast enough to hold of third-seeded Bunceton/Prairie Home in the opening round of the New Franklin Tournament on Monday.

The Lady Dragons pulled out to a quick 18-6 lead after one quarter on the way to a 57-32 win.

Both teams started slow early on as neither team scored in the beginning minutes of the game. Bunceton then took over and outscored Fayette in every quarter but the third.

In that third quarter, the Lady Falcons applied a very strong full-court press that frustrated the Dragons. At one point one of the Bunceton girls was heard to scream “Get off  me!” while being closely guarded by sophomore Preslee Sunderland.

“We need to be able to keep that momentum that we had in the third quarter of the game,”said Coach Brian Spielbauer.

Laci Fuhlage led the Falcons with 11 points on the night. Fayette will take on second-seeded Sweet Springs tonight (Wednesday at 8 p.m.
