The Fayette Falcons remain undefeated at home following a high-energy win, 86-67, over Southwest Livingston on Wednesday night.

Fayette leaped right out of the gate on a 3-pointer and layup by senior Cody Hilgedick to go up 5-0. But the Wildcats pulled it together and outscored the Falcons 13-8 over the last four minutes of the first quarter to go ahead 20-1. Southwest Livingston senior point guard Chase Neptune scored six of his eight first-quarter points to spur the turnaround for his team. He would go on to finish with a team-high 19 points.

“We got out of our element a little bit and went to our full-court and half-court zone press and I think we just struggled,” said Fayette coach Jon Bishop.

Hildgedick’s hot shooting in the first half kept the Falcons alive and propelled them to a 42-40 halftime lead. He scored 11 of his 20 points in the first quarter and finished the first half with 14.

“I thought Cody really paced us the first half,” Bishop said.

Fayette pulled ahead by six after three quarters and outscored the Wildcats 25-12 in the final frame to win the game.

“I am glad we were able to finish strong,” said Bishop. “That shows that we’re a solid ballclub because they’re a solid ballclub. They’re senior-laden and you can tell.”

Fayette’s capped off the third quarter with 10 straight points by junior Dalton Collins off the bench to move ahead 61-55. “He’s been a nice lightning rod to our team and I hope that continues because he’s a heck of a player,” Bishop said.

Collins finished 15 points on the night, 13 of which came in the second half.

Senior Kyle Schleeter, the Falcons’ top scorer all season, led all scorers with a quiet 31 points. After starting out cold early on from behind the arc, he scored 11 second-quarter points with three field goals and a 3-pointer and went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. He added four more clutch 3-pointers in the second half and sank two of three free-throw attempts.

Sophomore Chase Allen-Jackman made it to the rim all night but struggled to finish at the basket. The Falcons’ second-leading scorer, he finished with nine points. Senior Zach Henderson added six points on 4-for-4 free-throw shooting and sophomore Ben Wells had five points, all in the fourth quarter.
