Falcons place second at Fayette relays

Posted

As the track season continues, seniors Josh and Zach Henderson continue to improve on their own records. Josh finished second in the shot put with a throw of 14.34 meters at the Fayette Relays on Thursday. He followed that up, by finishing first in the discus throw with a toss of 48.28 meters.

Meanwhile, his brother Zach competed in the javelin throw and finished first by launching the javelin 52.00 meters.

Not to be outdone, the rest of the Fayette track squad fell in line by having seven first-place finishes and 15 top-five finishes on the day to come in second overall behind Southern Boone.

“I’m very happy with the way we competed,” said Fayette head coach Tom Oakley. “Southern Boone is a Class 3 school, so no worries about finishing second to them.”

On the girls’ side, sophomore Preslee Sunderland finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.27 seconds. Sunderland joined classmates Madison Race and Leah Lembke, along with senior Kylea Hoover to wrap up a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 25.32 seconds in the finals. Freshman Maddox Wells joined the same team, replacing Lembke, on the third leg of the 4x200-meter relay. That team took third with a time of 2:03.11 in the final, besting their seeding time by 4.89 seconds.

Lembke finished fifth in the girls' pole vault with a vault of 1.83 in the finals while senior Breanna Estes and sophomore Stephanie Nelson gained points by finishing first in the shot put and discus throw, respectively. Estes had a toss of 10.70 meters in the shot while Nelson hurled the discus 25.41 meters.

For the boys, two of the top four finishers in the 100-meter dash were Falcons as sophomore Chase Allen finished first at 11.68 seconds followed by senior Kaden Polson in fourth at 11.94. In the 200-meter dash, Zach Henderson left the field events long enough to win the event with a time of 24.31. He also joined senior Dillan Lembke, junior Garren Vroman, and Allen on the 4x100-meter relay team to finish first with a time of 46.02.

Sophomore Ben Wells circled the track in the 400-meter dash in 56.68 seconds to finish third and went on to team up with Polson, Vroman, and Zach Henderson in the 4x200-meter relay to take first with a time of 1:36.08. Wells and Polson then joined junior Avery Polson and Allen to take fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:04.51 seconds.

Senior Dillan Lembke finished first in the pole vault event by vaulting 3.63 meters.

Allen rounded out the scoring for the Falcons with a triple jump of 5.89 meters for a fourth-place finish.
