Falcon girls dominate second half in win over Southwest Livingston

Leading by five after two quarters of action, the Fayette Lady Falcon basketball team outscored Southwestern Livingston 28-7 in the second half to win 47-21 in Wednesday’s non-conference matchup in Fayette.

Fayette nearly doubled its first-half score of 19 with 17 points in the third quarter coming from six players.

Fayette coach Brian Spieldbauer told his players before the game to concentrate on playing hard and making plays. “It wasn’t always pretty and it sure wasn’t perfect, but we did a great job and I’m proud of their effort.”

Despite a strong third frame, Fayette struggled in the opening of the second half against pressure from the Lady Wildcats, scoring just four points in the first three-and-a-half minutes.

“I think they just wore down,” said Spielbauer. “Even though the score was closer at halftime we still made them work a lot.”

Defensively, the Falcons held the Wildcats to just two points in the final quarter and a half. Their only basket of the final frame came by was of a buzzer-beater by senior point guard Lily Web. Fayette also held Makenna Campbell to just three points in the second half. The senior guard would finish with a game-high 11 points.

Fayette was led by sophomore Kenzie Felten and junior Jordyn Ball with nine points each. Felten sank three baskets from behind the arc while Ball had six points in the paint and finished 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

“We haven’t hit very many 3-pointers this year, so it was nice to see that,” Spielbauer said.

Fayette’s next game is on the road against Prairie Home on Friday.
