Eldon Lyle Montgomery, 58, of New Franklin, passed away at his home, lovingly cared for by his family, on February 4, 2024.

Eldon was born in Kirksville, Missouri, on May 14, 1965, a son of Edgar Lyle Montgomery and Rosemary Gage Montgomery.

He married Heather Newell on July 9, 1994, and she survives at their home.

Eldon was a 1983 graduate of Schuyler County High School and was a member of Faith Family Church in Fayette.

He was self-employed in construction while also working at Septagon Construction in Columbia for several years. He has been employed at Central Methodist University in the Maintenance Department since 2012.

Some of his favorite activities included spending time with his family, helping others with his talents, gardening, hunting, playing pitch, and serving others at the Fayette Food Pantry and as a member of the New Franklin city council. He was proudly known as Papa to many daycare kids and “adopted” grandkids.

Those cherishing his memory include his wife, Heather Montgomery; son, Isaac Montgomery; daughters, Kendra (Kyle) Crowley, Angel (Chris) Montgomery, Sara (Evan) Storjohann; brothers, Eugene (Robbie) Montgomery, Ellison (Roberta) Montgomery; sisters, Lila (Howard) Easley, Linda (Lester) Montgomery and his much-loved grandchildren, Shaun, Sofia, Zoee, Ross, David, and Ivan. He is also survived by his beloved brother-in-law, Bob Holloway, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward Lyle and Earnest Lyle Montgomery, and sisters Lucy Gray and Lois Holloway.

A Celebration of Eldon’s life will be held at 12 p.m. (noon) on February 17, 2024, at Faith Family Church in Fayette. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Faith Family Church or the Eldon Montgomery Benefit Fund, payable to Heather Montgomery.

Condolences may be shared at www.marklandyager.com.

Markland-Yager Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
