The Central Methodist indoor track & field program participated in the Principia College Relays over the weekend in Elsah, Illinois.
Jaxon Hiser placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 4.50 meters. Harrisburg native Brayton Stephenson and Colder Evans took the top two places in the shot put event with throws of 15.33 and 14.80 meters, respectively. Evans won the weight throw with a mark of 15.56 meters.
Leroy Williams won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds. Jack Schiffhauer placed second in the 500-meter run in 1:08.12. In addition, Schiffhauer also earned a fourth-place standing in the 400 meters in 37.09 seconds.
Ethan Smith and Hunter Mont Cary finished first and second, respectively, in the heptathlon. Smith racked up 4,693 total points for the win. Cary tallied 4,625 points in the second position.
On the women’s side, Yanira Paninka hit the National Qualifying ‘A’ standard in the 3,000-meter racewalk with a time of 15:56.40.
Karli Wolfe placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.81 meters. Fellow thrower Kali Brown placed fourth in the same event with a throw of 13.55 meters, a new personal best.
Kailey Johnson won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.17 seconds, followed by Parys Smith in third place with a time of 9.41 seconds. Tafaol Mohamed was right behind Smith, finishing fourth in 9.45 seconds.
In addition, Smith came in second in the 300-meter run in 44.04 seconds. Claireece Cross competed in the pentathlon, where she finished third with 2,639 total points.
Junior Dayana Montenegro won the 500-meter run in a time of 1:16.27, followed by Paninka in 1:20.30 to place second.
To close the meet, the 4x400-meter relay crew of Montenegro, Mohamed, Johnson, and Paninka placed first in a time of 4:05.14.
Central will next compete in the Walter Cramer Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 3, in Bourbonnais, Ill.
