Howard County Collector Jinger Felten has mailed the 2020 Howard County real estate and personal property tax statements along with any delinquent tax due. Those who have bought, sold, or own real estate or personal property not included on tax statements should quickly notify the collector’s office at (660) 248-2195, or assessor’s office at (660) 248-3400.
Failure to receive a tax statement does not relieve the taxpayer of the obligation to pay. Any delinquent tax must be paid prior to the current tax year. Taxes must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2020 or they will be returned for penalty and interest. Tax statements must be returned along with the correct amount due for proper identification when paying in the office or by mail.
The collector will again offer the Preauthorized Debit for prepay payments for 2021 based on the amount of real estate and/or personal property paid in 2020. Those interested should visit the collector’s office in the Howard County Courthouse to register for 2021.
Online Payments may be made at http://howardcounty.centralbank.net.
Felten has been charged with $9,610,496.38 for the current 2020 tax year. Real estate taxes total $5,781,816.87, while personal property taxes came in at $2,287,773.69, and railroad, and utility, state, and local assessed taxes at $1,2365,331.55. Howard County special levee and drainage district taxes total $175,574.27.
The courthouse will be closed November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving. During Christmas, the collector’s office will close Dec. 24 at noon and will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2021. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. thru 4:30 p.m. and open during noon hour.
