Commercial Trust Company in Fayette made a donation of $5,000 to the Howard County Fair Board Friday afternoon. The bank traditionally supports the annual county fair through purchases made during the livestock shows. But like many things in 2020, the fair was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Young farmers were still able to show the animals they raised before judges. The events were held so that winners may still go on to compete at the Missouri State Fair in August. And while that event has also been canceled, livestock judging will still go on,
In a letter to the fair board, Commercial Trust President Janet Jacobs said that while the cancelation is disappointing, it provides our young people with lessons in determination, flexibility, and perseverance.
Jacobs said the bank wishes to make the donation to benefit the fair itself “in order to recognize the efforts of all the Howard County fair participants and continue to show our support for an event that has always been a priority for Commercial Trust.”
The bank asks that funds from this donation are not distributed as premiums to individual exhibitors, but rather used as the board’s discretion in the form of a project or improvement that will benefit all future participants and spectators.
“A big thanks to Commercial Trust for supporting the fair,” said board president Doug Chambers. He added that he hopes the far can return to its normal operations in 2021.
