Bridge replacement nearly complete

Posted

Howard County road and bridge crews are expected to complete the construction of a new bridge on County Road 320 this week. Work started in April. The total project cost is $378,639.07, of which 80 percent is paid from the Off-system Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program (BRO), which provides federal transportation funds to repair bridges throughout Missouri. Howard County kicked in 20 percent of the cost, which was in the form of in-kind labor.

Howard County receives about $104,000 every year from the BRO fund, which is held until enough money is built up for bridge replacement. It takes about three years to save to pay for the replacement of a bridge. The Missouri Department of Transportation must then approve the project.
